It was a warm summer day in July when Liliana and Luke celebrated their new start. They held the ceremony at the beautiful Horniman Museum and Gardens in South London followed by reception at the Lordship Pub. Their day was filled with so many personal touches, like bridesmaids’ hair pieces made by her sister, and asking everyone to write Haiku poems on the guest book, just to name a few.
Having dated since they were fifteen, they went through so many phases of life together. Knowing that most early relationships end out of immaturity or as life unrolls, it was so impressive at so many levels.
The day started at their first home together in East Dulwich. Liliana, her mother and sister, and her bridesmaids all gathered here to get dressed and have a relaxing start to the day. Now they have moved out of this place, I’m glad to have captured this space on their behalf; they will one day look back to these photos and recall their first home.
When I first arrived, Lily’s mother Linda was preparing the flowers. She actually made all the flower decorations for the day! Not only that, she also baked all the cakes – and she made 5 of them. Each flower decoration and the cake were so impressive that I wondered if she had ever been a patissier or a florist. Going beyond how well made they were though, it showed how much love Linda has for the two lovebirds to have prepared all the cakes and flowers.
The gorgeous bridesmaids’ ribbons made by Liliana’s sister Jess. Side note: Jess is also getting married in the summer of 2025, and she is going ahead with me to capture her day! I’m super excited to see Liliana and Luke again there.
During Liliana’s speech, she mentioned that she and Luke said three things they are grateful for each day ever since they started going out. Sometimes I think back to this, and now I try to write 10 things I am grateful for each day, or ask my hubby what he is grateful for today.
The wedding is as much about the reunion of all the guests as the marriage itself, as Liliana said in her speech: we invited to celebrate not only us, but also all of you who came to our day. It’s a day not only to celebrate the marriage of the couple and the guests, but also people who are not present physically but still there in spirit.
